Android For Trainees In 2 Weeks: Myths And Reality

How quickly can you teach Android to a trainee and get him working on a project? In an Erasmus sponsored event – PROMAND, held in Poland this March, we have tried to achieve it in two weeks.

16 students from different Baltic universities, with basic knowledge of Java development, were split into a team of 4 and given a task to develop an application from a given specification developed by C.T.Co. Teams had two weeks and almost no knowledge about Android development. During the first week, me and other mentors hosted lectures and workshops for students and only the second week was fully dedicated to the development as such. In this article I will try to summarize the problems and bottlenecks that students had developing their first application and what solutions were to be found.
